Irad Yavneh received his B.Sc. degree (summa cum laude) in Aeronautical Engineering from the Technion in 1984 and his Ph.D. degree in Applied Mathematics from the Weizmann Institute of Science in 1991. Since 1993 he has been a Technion faculty member, and is currently the Joan Callner Miller Professor of Computer Science. He served as dean of Computer Science during 2013-2017, and as Director of the Samuel Neaman Institute for National Policy Research during 2020-2023. His research interests include multi-scale computational techniques, scientific computing and computational physics, image processing and analysis, and geophysical fluid dynamics. He has held editorial positions at the SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing (SISC) and Numerical Linear Algebra and Applications. He was Program Co-Chair of the Copper Mountain Conference on Multigrid Methods during 2009-2015, and has been a committee member of several conferences in his field. In 2021 he led the foundation of the “Technion Campus Leaders” program for the development of future Technion leadership, and he has since been heading the program.
Irad is a dedicated teacher and has received several Technion teaching awards, including the Yanai Prize for Excellence in Academic Education.
